Vaazhaipoo vadai (வாழைப்பூ வடை) or Banana blossom patty.

Hi uravugaley, today I come up with a healthy, tasty vazhaipoo vadai a.k.a Banana blossom patty. Only simple ingredients is needed to do this. But believe me, it has loads of health benefits in it.

Don’t get panic, whether your lil children love them or not. Do it in the way, I teach u. They will love them and they will ask u more and more vadai like my son.

Health benefits of Vazhaipoo

1. It is full of antioxidant that fight free radicals.

2. They are good for diabetes.

3. They keeps infection at bay.

4. It can tackle PCOS and regulate menstrual bleeding.

5. It is best for stomach ulcer.

Preparation time : 10 mins

Cooking time : 15 mins

Soaking time : 2 hours

Ingredients :

Vazhaipoo – 1 cup

Bengal gram dhal – 3/4 cup

Small onion – 8 shallots

Green chillies – 2 nos (medium size)

Asafoetida – a pinch

Ginger – a small size

Fennel seeds – 1 tspn

Garlic – 4 cloves

How to prepare

Soak the Bengal gram dhal for 2 hours

Meanwhile, I hope u people know, how to clean the vazhaipoo. Clean it and wash it in water. Take a kadaai and add washed vazhaipoo, add a pinch of turmeric, 1/4 glass of water or 3tsp of water. Keep the kadai in flame.

Note: don’t add too much of water.

Put it in medium flame and allow it to boil for 6 mins. This process is to cook the vazhaipoo a bit,because some flowers has bitter taste in it, to avoid such things, we cook it for a little.

After 6 mins, keep the kadaai aside and allow it to cool.

In a mixie jar, take the soaked Bengal dhal gram,fennel seeds, chillies, ginger, garlic and grind them coarsely. After that add cooked vazhaipoo, while adding strain the water from vazhaipoo, grind all together finely. Add some curry leaves while grinding.

Take the grounded mixture and put it in a bowl, now add finely chopped onion shallots, salt, asafoetida,and give them a good mix. Mix it nicely, check the salt, add more or less as per ur taste,add chopped curry leaves and coriander.

Place a kadaai in the stove and add cooking oil in it.

Keep the flame in medium heat and check whether the oil is hot enough to fry the vadai. Make a small ball and flatten it in your palm,place them one by one in the kadai, allow them to cook in both sides. Turn it and wait untill a crisp layer formed and the color of vadai changes into brown color. Take out from the oil, serve hot.

From this above method, there is no trace of vazhaipoo,chillies, even onions, if u chopped them nicely. So that ur children have no chance to complaint. Please give this to ur children to make them healthy and for immunity boost.

Best DIY hair serum to promote hair growth (sinus friendly)

Hi uravugaley, today is a relaxing Saturday for me, so I planned to soak my hair into a best home made serum.

First I like to tell my hair type and my body type, so this will help u all to know whether it is a best or not for u.

1. I’m a CG girl,with dry and frizz curls.

2. I have sinus,so I have to do lot of experiments in all products, whether it provoke my sinus and make me hospitalised.

3. I always care for my curls, and I’m not specific with any CG products. So, if I use anyother serum or masks, it will break my curls and make my hair frizzy pop.

So these are the struggles I’m facing as a CG girl.

But coming to this serum, it never provokes my sinus,Even, if I keep it in my head for long time. It gives a nice glow and also strengthen my hair.

For this serum we take only 3 ingredients.

Fenugreek – 1 tbspn

Kalonji or karu jeeragam – 1 tbspn

Olive oil – 1 tspn

We have to take this all in a bowl and soak it overnight.

Take soaked fenugreek and kalonji in a mixie jar and grind coarsely after that add the soaked water and strain it.now add olive oil to this water.Mix well .

Adding of olive oil is to make ur hair soft and frizz free, if u r not a fan of olive oil, add ur favourite oil like almond oil, mustard oil (these r sinus friendly too)

Now transfer the serum into a spray bottle.

Tadaa ur serum is ready.

It s a simple procedure to soak ur hair. Part ur hair, make it tangle free, section it inch by inch and spray the serum in the roots. Then give a light massage. If u have more serum, spray them through out your hair. After that put a shower cap. Let it sit for 1 hour. Then wash ur hair with ur favourite shampoo and don’t forget to condition ur hair with a mild conditioner.

Product review- Garnier Light Complete (Moisturising serum-in lotion)

Hi uravugaley, sorry for the long break. I’m back.

Today, I’m going to do a product review, first of all I want to clear one thing to u all. I’m not a girl, who fancied of creams and lotions. Because I have a very sensitive skin, if I try any product end up in breaking out, acne. uff sounds horrible.

One day I went to store to bought Garnier hair dye for my mother, they gave me this moisturiser for free,along with the hair dye.

U can see that, it is not for individual sale. I’m underlining this for, I truly hate Garnier products, it has lemon in all form, it make my sensitive skin to have acne.

But nobody use cream in my house, so planned to have a patch test. I’m also scared because, I have bad suntan in my hands, feet and also in my face. I applied little bit in hand, truly I have to admit that, I love the smell, it was heavenly, and also it doesn’t gave any irritation.

Next, I planned to apply in my hands in the night time, it has moisturising property too. To my surprise in the morning, my suntan reduced visibly, my skin color increased a point. I can’t believe my eyes.

It also doesn’t affect my skin any more. It was mild, smells divinely, absorbs quickly. It works in two in one way ie.moisturising and brighten my skin.

It blends with ease, it has Yuzu lemon essence and Vitamin C, we all knows that Vitamin C has antioxidant properties, it helps in preventing and treating UV (ultra violet). This cream also claims that it has UV filters.

I don’t know whether u know the difference in the picture or not, but to my heart it improves my skin tone and moisturize, no chip chip like. moisturising.

Pro’s

1. It has amazing heavenly smell, which is mild and pleasant.

2. It moisturise ur skin without any mess, it also protects ur skin from harmful sunlight.

3. It has UV filters an additional bonus.

Cons

1. The only cons is it has little chemical in it, like all the creams.

But so far, it doesn’t harm my skin. I’m damn sure, that is I have specific skin type and not all cream works wonders to me.

Wheat flour chocolate chip cookies

Hi uravugaley, this post is specially for our little charms, summer vacation is ‘on’, children are addict to chocolate, so if it is in healthier and homemade means, double advantage. Let’s give them a treat with homemade cookies.

Ingredients :

 Wheat flour – 1 cup
Egg – 1 no
Vannila essence – 1 teaspoon
Sugar – 3/4 cup (powdered)
Coco powder – 1/8 cup
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
Baking soda –  a pinch
Choco chips – as neededPreparation time – 30 mins


For baking measuring cups are the boon, to do things well defined.

Take a mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup butter and 3/4 cup powdered sugar (take normal sugar and give one pulse in mixie) Beat them, till both becomes creamy.
Now add one egg and one teaspoon vannila essence. Mix them together, like a cream.


It’s time to add the dry ingredients. Take a large seive, put the ingredients one by one and seive properly to avoid lumps and ungrind particles.


1 cup wheat flour and 1/8 cup coco powder,1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 pinch baking soda, seive it into the creamy mixture.
Mix all the ingredients and roll it like a chapati dough. Some time the dough looks hard, if it so add some milk to loosen, sometime it looks loose, if so add some flour to make it tight. It should be same as chapati dough.


Now grease the baking tray with butter.
Roll the dough into small portions and flatten it by pressing, u can use cookie cutter.
Preheat the oven to 180 degree for 10 mins.


Now it time to bake, keep it in the oven for 20 mins at 180 degree.

Some time it will burn, so keep it for 15 mins after checking,increase it.

After take it out from the oven allow it cool for 10 min, so that it becomes crispy.


Tada! Our cookies are ready. Enjoy healthy wheat flour cookies at home within 30 mins.


Tips :

1. Always beat the egg and butter creamy, so that the dough will be soft.

2. Add powdered sugar to the butter because, granulated sugar doesn’t melt into the butter fast, after mixing the dough it begins to melt and make the dough watery.

3. Try to make the cookies flat, if the dough is uneven in some area, it won’t cook nicely and evenly.

How to do :

Ulunthu kanji for bone strength

Hi uravugaley, today we will discuss about our authentic ulunthu kanji recipe, this is a famous recipe in village side, they will have this atleast weekly once, for strong bones and hip joints. Come let us get into the cooking

Ingredients:

Serving number – 3 persons

Urad dal – 1/4 cup

Fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon

Jaggery – 1/2 cup

Grated coconut – 1/4 cup

First soak the Urad dal and fenugreek for atleast 4 hours and grind it into a fine paste in a grinder or mixer jar.

Take it in a cup and add triple the amount of water into it, ie. If the batter comes around 1/2 cup add 1 1/2 cup of water, mix well with water to make the thick paste into thin.

Add water like this, there should be no lumps.so stir well.

The batter mix should be in this consistency, watery. So that it wouldn’t get burnt while stiring.

Keep it on the stove, stir continuously, till ur hands begins to pain. Actually, I add some extra water in between.

After 15 mins the color of the mixture turns to little transparent.

Like this, check whether the raw smell of the urad dal goes off, if the raw smell is still, stir again . Now add jaggery to this.

After adding jaggery the color of the urad dal will be like this. Make sure the jaggery dissolves well.

Now u get a nice aroma from this, stir again continuously, if u like to add Elachi, powder it and mix it into it.

Now add grated coconut, stir once and off the stove, now your ulunthu kanji is ready to serve.

This is our traditional recipe, our elders know the value of this, so that they were strong.Still in our village, our elders prepare this specially on puberty function, it s believed that it makes the bone of the puberty girl strong. But continuous use of this dish surely make u strong.Working womens need lot of energy, do atleast once in a week,it will take ur bone health to peak.

How to season and use iron kadai under 30 mins

Hi uravugaley, in this fast spinning world, we are always like and love to use instant product for cooking as well as eating , we merely forgot our ancestors and their habits.

Our ancestors, use some metal cookwares for cooking foods, like iron, copper, clay pot. Nowadays we are very likely to use nonstick cookwares.

Those metal cookwares have health benefits in their own.

Cast Iron pot:

  • It is a natural nonstick utensil without Teflon coating.
  • It release iron to food, so that it helps in fight against anaemia.
  • Very easy to clean.

Clay pot:

  • It has an ability to circulate steam, so it provides plenty of moisture, which results in less oil and fat.
  • It is a natural detox, it also contains Vitamin B12.
  • Reheating the food leads to loss nutrition, but in clay pot there is no need of reheating, because of slow cooking.

Seasoning an Iron kadai :

Lets immerse into the process of seasoning an Iron kadai. First take ur kadai and check the rusting level, some kadai has lots of rust, so be careful while cleaning.

Thankfully my kadai has less rust, I bought this kadai in Bigbazaar, original price of this kadai is 480/Rs,in offer I got this for 199/Rs only.

I’m not fancy about buying cookwares in malls. But I like this offer, so that I grab it.

After checking, wash your kadai with a soft scrubber and a mild dishwasher soap, don’t scrape it hardly. Wash 2 to 3 times.

After washing keep the kadai in low flame in stove, it helps in open the micro pore in kadai.

After heating put some castor oil in the kadai, and add some roughly chopped onion into this.

With a laddle saute the onion. While sauteing,spread the onion and oil throughout the pan with steel spoon.

Like this.

My kadai has less rust, so after sauteing it, Onion turns to golden brown. but some kadai has more rust, if u saute onion into that it becomes black within a second.

The process of sauteing onion is to take off the remaining rust in the kadai after washing. Throw off the onion. Now your kadai is ready to use.

Hello uravugaley, today is the best day to share my year long recipe,dry fruit powder is a boon to babies for healthy weight gain, even it acts as an immunity booster to adults, we can substitute this healthy drink for coffee or tea.

Ingredients :

Badam – 100gm

Walnut – 100gm

Pista – 50gm

Cashew nut – 100gm

Fried gram (pottukadalai) – 10gm

Elachi – 7 nos

These are the ingredients, which makes us healthy and strong. This can be used for babies, age from 1 1/2 years. As u all know the benefits of all the above ingredient, so I don’t want to bore you.

For the powder we have to dry roast the ingredients one by one, but becareful, while roast them, a minute late can make the ingredients burnt and spoil the taste of the powder.

Roasted ingredients must be like this not too roast and not less roast.

After roasting the ingredients keep it in steel plate and cool it for 15 mins.

Mix all together, so that everything will grind nicely, put the ingredients in a mixer jar, fill the mixer jar with quarter part of the ingredient. So that it will grind perfectly.

Grind the ingredients slowly, with a spatula mix it in between, so that everything will grind evenly.

Grind the next set of ingredients, put it in pan and let it cool.

Grinded ingredients should be like this.

How to use :

For babies take 2 spoons of powder and put it in a cup, pour hot milk and sugar, keep the drink for 10 mins, filter it and give it to them. I always pour this on top of dosa and give it to my 5 years old boy.

For adults take 2 spoons of powder and mix it with milk drink as ur desire. U can add naatu sakkarai or panagkarkandu into this.

In my experience, I’m using this for my son, for an alternative to store bought health drinks and it does what it claims, it helps in brain development,it also helps in healthy weight gain.

U can store it in an airtight container for a month. The ingredients, I mentioned here are for a month use. If u want to make it for 2 months double the portion of ingredients. Please don’t go for store bought malt based powders, try this recipe and comment. Surely u will be satisfied with this drink. Thank u all.

DIY for chickenpox scars

Hello uravugaley , this is my first post in my blog,I need all your support.

Because of the drastic weather, I was affected by chickenpox in March end. This is the very first time for me to get chickenpox. By the grace of God, I have only little scars in my face, but it looks black and noticeable, so that I want to fade it, before it get worse. So here I’m going to share my diy with u all, to fade the shade of scars.

First I use natural gold ie. “Almond” for this diy.

Almonds are rich in vitamin- E, it nourishes and softens skin, it also has anti-inflammatory properties, that helps in healing skin problems.

Burning almond also good for face, this time, I’m going to use burnt almond for this. To burnt an almond, place the almond on the fire, like this, one almond is enough for 5 to 6 scars.

Let’s keep the almond in the burner for 5 mins, don’t forget to turn it into other side. So that it gets burnt both the sides.

After burning crush the almond into nice powder using tartar.

To add more healing properties to this diy, I use wild turmeric (kasthuri manjal) into it, don’t use powdered wild turmeric, use it in raw form.

Let’s scrub the wild turmeric in the scrubbing stone. To make it a paste use little water.so that we will get the desired consistency.if u have no wild turmeric, just use the charcoal and almond oil.

Now it’s time to mix and explore our DIY, mix the charcoal of almond with wild turmeric paste.now add almond oil to this mixture, I’m using well’s almond oil.

Let mix all together to make a paste, wash your face and pat dry, ur face should be always clean, before apply any DIY.After cleaning your face, gently apply this paste on your scars like a dot.

Start working on to ur face, surely u will see visible results,use this diy continuously for 10 days or ur scars begins to fade, after 10 days, I will share my result.some chickenpox scars are light, some are strong, so it depends on the depth of scars, but in my face, I have light scars.

After applying the paste, wait for 30 mins, wash it of with warm water or wipe it of with clean cloth, don’t use any cream after this, go to sleep after washing this, almond oil in the paste moisturise ur skin.

This diy is my own finding , I’m using this to fade away my scars, after using this for only 2 days, I found visible result, you can also use it for pimple scars, for tender scars 10 days is enough, for long stayed scars, it will take some time to heal, so be patient.Pls share ur feedback through comment.
